The following response was sent to Sonia Yung on November 16 regarding her request to return to bargaining.
Sonia – thank-you for your email.
We are eager to reach a collective agreement and get our employees back to work doing the important work they do for the children and families of Peel Region.
As you will recall, your bargaining committee requested the assistance of the Ministry of Labour in reaching a negotiated collective agreement. We believe their guidance has been helpful and will, once again, request that you contact the Ministry of Labour mediator assigned to assist the parties with your request to return to bargaining.
That being said, Peel CAS has made significant strides towards reaching a negotiated collective agreement. Since you took your members on strike, the agency has twice improved our offer with no meaningful movement from the union’s bargaining committee. In order for an agreement to be reached both sides need to participate in the bargaining.
I look forward to hearing from the Ministry of Labour.
