Peel CAS is closing two agency operated group homes due to a decline in the number of youth coming into care and the agency’s commitment to family based settings.
There are currently about 9% fewer children coming into care than five years ago. Over the past five years, Peel CAS has also made a commitment to place children and youth that need to be brought into care into family based settings. Family based care includes placing children with kin or foster parents. Given these changes, there is no longer a need to keep these homes open.
To ensure we can meet the needs of the community, and assist the few children and youth who may require this type of support, Peel CAS will continue to operate one group home. We are currently exploring alternative uses for the two homes that are closing such leasing opportunities in the community for organizations who may have a need for a residential home.
Peel CAS remains committed to the best outcomes for families. Focusing on family based settings for children and youth is one way for us to work towards this goal.
