Everyone needs a family and our foster caregivers have a lasting impact on children and youth. They help children and youth through some of the challenges that come with traumatic separation, loss and other difficulties. As role models, they contribute to helping these children and youth develop a positive outlook and create a sense of belonging. On May 25, 2017, Jocelyne and Gerry Bechard received a Peel Children’s Aid long service award for 25 years of active foster caregiving. Please read their inspiring profile below.
Jocelyne and Gerry Bechard
Jocelyne and Gerry have been a part of Peel CAS’s fostering family for the past 25 years. Kind and genuine in their approach, they foster school aged children and have supported more than 120 children and youth over the years.
The Bechards are quick to make every child feel comfortable and safe within their home. Each child is welcomed with unconditional acceptance and patience, and Jocelyne and Gerry provide a warm environment for children to learn important life skills using teachable moments. The Bechards are deeply committed to attaining permanency for children; Jocelyne facilitates visits with biological families and once a child goes home, they will often call her for parenting strategies and tips. Children who transition out of the Bechard home regularly keep in touch and come back for visits.
Congratulations Jocelyne and Gerry, and thank you for providing a loving and nurturing home for children in your care.
