Every year Peel CAS selects individuals or organizations to add to the Peel Children’s Aid Honour Roll in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the lives of children and families in our community. On May 30, 2019, Vasti and Harold Mohan were placed on our Honour Roll. Please read their inspiring profile below.
Vasti and Harold Mohan
For the past 15 years, Vasti and Harold have provided a place of safety for children who cannot remain in their own homes. Dedicated caregivers, they nurture and support each child’s unique needs, consistently demonstrating passion and patience for the children they care for. This is especially evident when a child has unique and complex needs.
Recently, Vasti and Harold were asked to foster an infant still receiving care in the hospital. The Mohans worked together to provide the baby with a smooth transition from the hospital to their home while still caring for two other infants. Going beyond the agency’s expectations, Vasti visited the hospital from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily for three weeks to help create a bond with the baby prior to his discharge.
Vasti patiently helped this young child to slowly become comfortable with her. This included taking the baby around the hospital to help him socialize and explore. Prior to leaving the hospital, Vasti spent 24 hours in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit learning how to insert a feeding tube so she could operate it when the infant came home. Vasti and Harold’s commitment, engagement and nurturing have significantly and positively impacted this child’s demeanor, progress and development. The agency knows infants are thriving thanks to Vasti and Harold’s love and care.
