The process to become a foster, foster to adopt or adoptive family is basically the same. The length of time from submitting your application to approval will vary depending on the program and the agency’s needs at the time.
The Application Process
Becoming a Caregiver - To become a caregiver the first step is to obtain an application. You may do this by speaking with a recruiter at 905-363-6131 ext 1819.
Becoming an Adoption Family - To learn more about public adoption and the process call 905-363-6131 ext 3055 and speak to a worker.
The Assessment Process
Once Peel CAS receives your completed application, a worker will contact you and a home visit will be arranged to meet you and your family. Subsequently, there are two standardized components for you to complete. These provincially credited components, P.R.I.D.E. Pre-Service training and S.A.F.E. Homestudy, will be offered to you at no cost by knowledgeable, trained instructors. All applicants will be required to obtain police checks from Peel Region as well as any other region in Ontario, province in Canada or country that they have resided in from the age of eighteen until the present.
Once training is complete, each family is carefully assessed before being approved. There is no set waiting time before you receive placement of a child as careful consideration is given to matching children with the most appropriate family.
