Franco-Ontarian Day
September 25th marks Franco-Ontarian Day! Ontario boasts Canada's largest Francophone community outside of Quebec with more than 622,000 Francophones and 1.5 million Ontarians who speak French.
Franco-Ontarian Day was officially announced in 2010 to celebrate the importance of the Francophone community to the social, economic, and political life of Ontario.
Francophones make up 4.7% of the population of Ontario, and although Francophones only account for 2.1% of the total population in Central Ontario, the region is home to 30.7% of the province's Francophone population, 1/3 of which lives in Toronto.
French Language Services at Peel CAS:
Did you know that Peel CAS offers services in French? We are designated under the Province's French Language Services Act to ensure that Franco-Ontarians in Peel region are able to access child welfare services in French. We currently offer a variety of documents and publications in French, our phone lines support French callers, and we have several staff members who are able to provide services in French.
