Early Help and Prevention

Peel CAS’ Early Help and Prevention planning works together with families to ensure children and youth feel safe and are able to succeed and thrive within the family unit. This initiative aligns with a key pillar of the Ontario Government’s Child Welfare Redesign, as we continue to focus on strengthening partnerships, prevention, and early intervention.

Through our collaborative networks we are able to identify and respond to the unique needs of families early on while connecting them quickly to appropriate and effective community-based supports. This allows us to respond to less severe concerns with a preventative approach before difficulties escalate. Examples of Early Help areas that we support include, but are not limited to:

  • Addressing food security
  • Youth mental health and success
  • Education and career planning
  • Anti-Human Trafficking resources
  • Infant wellness and healthy pregnancies

Early Help and Prevention is another step in our work to increase positive outcomes for the families we serve while striving to address the over-representation of marginalized groups and reduce the number of children and youth that come into our care.

Early Help and Prevention Fact Sheet

This past year we were able to help over 326 families with our Early Help approach. We remain committed to sharing these successes with our community.
