Did you know? Approximately 1 in 5 children and youth in Ontario has a mental health challenge, and about 70% of mental health issues have their onset in childhood. In the last 5 years, Peel CAS experienced a staggering 186% increase in requests for counselling services. As part of our mental health strategy we work with community partners to provide programs that help empower the children and youth with serve while giving them the tools and resources they need to thrive.
We are so grateful to The Awesome Music Project for delivering one of these programs – The Awesome Music Hour – which will help the youth we support build confidence with emotional expression and regulation, reduce stress while improving self-esteem and enhance social connection for positive mental well-being.
On Monday, May 12, 2025 at the Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, The Awesome Music Project is hosting their first Golf Classic where funds will support the implementation of the music program through our Trailblazers Youth Centre!
This program uses the power of music to break down barriers and help youth navigate mental health challenges. The youth that participated in the recent pilot made new connections and expressed feelings of a stronger sense of belonging. Program leads highlighted that it was a unique way to help the youth build confidence and that they saw “quieter more reserved youth come alive during the sessions.”
