About Peel CAS

Peel Children’s Aid Society strives to ensure the safety and well-being of the community’s most vulnerable with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. Through culturally competent services, with the support of our Peel community, we help parents and caregivers build healthy families and provide a safe environment for children and youth.

We believe that children and youth belong at home with their families whenever possible, and will do everything we can to keep families together. Families we work with may be facing challenges such as poverty, unemployment, ill health, domestic violence, mental health issues, or caring for a child who has serious physical, emotional or developmental difficulties. Some families just need parenting support. Peel CAS works with the family to determine the kind of supports they need, and links them with the appropriate community services.

Together, Peel CAS and our partners work with children and families for a stronger, healthier community.

What is our role?

Our agency provides assessment, teaching and support programs to help create safe and loving homes for children. We work with families to offer guidance and techniques to improve parenting skills and communication.  We are proud to partner with numerous community organizations to ensure our families have access to counseling and treatment programs specific to their needs.

Peel Children’s Aid Society encourages professionals (e.g. police officers, doctors, school teachers) and citizens who are concerned about the well-being of a child to contact us for assistance. We provide advice and assessment of these concerns and work with the family to decide how to move forward. Learn more about when to call us and what happens when you do.

We believe that children belong with their families, and 99 per cent of our work is done with families and children in their own homes.  Unfortunately, it is sometimes necessary to bring children into our care to ensure their safety and best interests.

For children and teens who are unable to stay in their own home, or have no parent or guardian available, we place them in a temporary, safe and caring environment with kin, family friends or a foster caregiver. Many of the children who come to foster families have experienced some form of abuse or neglect and need a loving, stable environment to help them recover from their experience. We provide ongoing support to children in care and their foster caregivers. Learn more about fostering and becoming a foster parent.

Peel Children’s Aid Society also facilitates public adoptions for children whose birth family is unable to care for the child. Learn more about adoption and welcoming a child as a permanent member of your family.
