Volunteer Position Description
Description & Expectations:
- Provide support, understanding and guidance in a one-to-one relationship with a child through regular outings/activities
- Help improve a child’s self-esteem, self-confidence and initiative
- Help improve and enhance a child’s ability to establish positive relationships with peers and adults
- Act as a role model displaying consistency, problem-solving skills, use of community resources, socially acceptable behavior, responsibility, etc.
Supervised By:
Social Worker
Qualifications Required:
- An interest in child welfare and experience with children
- Reliability, consistency, maturity and flexibility
- Strong communication skills
- An understanding of anti-oppression practices and willingness to embrace these practices
Time Required:
- 3 to 4 hours weekly or bi-weekly
- Minimum one year commitment
Training Provided:
- Basic orientation – mandatory
- Annual workshop
- Support/training meetings
