Peel CAS and the Peel Addiction Assessment and Referral Centre (PAARC) partner to offer quality services to clients who struggle with substance and drug abuse as caregivers/parents. Our approach is to ensure that each individual receives services that are unique to their challenges so that they are able to provide a safe and caring environment for their children.
We use the “Signs of Safety” approach, anchored in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in addressing child protection concerns. Mental health challenges are, in most cases, complicating factors rather than direct causes of the concerns for the child’s well-being. We believe in the importance of strong social networks that parents, caregivers and agencies can rely on to ensure that children are always safe regardless of the mental health state of the parent.
Connecting families to partners like PAARC and other mental health resources, and encouraging supportive social networks, are some of the ways that Peel CAS ensures that children are able to remain in their home and community.
