Volunteer Position Description

 

Description & Expectations:

  • Work on a one-on-one basis with a child experiencing learning challenges
  • Build a positive relationship with the child
  • Help improve a child’s self-esteem, self-confidence and initiative
  • Help improve and enhance a child’s ability to establish positive relationships with peers and adults
  • Act as a role model displaying consistency, problem-solving skills, use of community resources, socially acceptable behavior, responsibility, etc.

Supervised By:

Social Worker

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Some post secondary education
  • Previous experience working with children and tutoring as asset
  • A basic knowledge of primary level subjects

Time Required:

  • 1 or 2 hours weekly
  • Minimum six months to a year commitment

Training Provided:

  • Basic Orientation – mandatory
