🎉 Such incredible news for children, youth, and families throughout our Peel community! Yesterday afternoon the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and the Honourable Charmaine Williams announced a $4,088,377 funding commitment towards the Safe Centre of Peel's expansion in Mississauga – which will be opening its doors within our Peel CAS building at 25 Capston Dr. this year!
The Safe Centre of Peel is a collaboration of community partners that provides services and resources to survivors of intimate partner violence and their families. This investment marks a significant moment for women throughout Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon – they will always have a safe place to go, a place where community wraps around them and gives them the supports they need to become empowered and thrive together with their families.
“This funding will empower survivors and families in Peel Region to access coordinated, wraparound supports as they rebuild their lives with safety and dignity,” said Minister Williams. “By strengthening our local response to intimate partner violence, we are taking meaningful steps to break the cycle of harm and create pathways to healing.”
This investment is part of the Ontario government’s $98 million commitment to launch up to 83 initiatives province-wide, advancing its four-year action plan to combat gender-based violence. Through the Safe Centre of Peel, these funds will enhance our collective ability to deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive care through partnerships that place survivors at the heart of every service.
Many thanks to the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services and all of the amazing people who continue to pave the way to make moments like these happen. Together, we can stand up against intimate partner violence and build a safer future for everyone in Peel.
