Peel Children’s Aid Society Welcomes Ministry Review

Feb 17, 2021, 13:49 PM

Statement from Juliet Jackson, President, Board of Directors

The Peel Children’s Aid Society (Peel CAS) management team and Board of Directors care deeply about the well-being of our staff and we have no tolerance for racism, anti-Black racism, and discrimination.

We became aware of staff experiences related to systemic racism and anti-Black racism in our workplace and have recognized that we are not immune from systemic bias and racism.  We believe we have more work to do to better understand, identify and address issues that impede the success of Black, Indigenous and other racialized groups in our workforce.

We recognize the need to work together to chart a path forward and believe that an independent process that is transparent and open is a critical element to that undertaking.

In order to ensure the voices of all staff across the organization are heard, the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services will initiate a ministry-led operational review. This will allow all parties to actively engage in the process, which is key to real meaningful change that is sustainable.

We welcome the review and are confident that the results will lay the foundation for ongoing organizational improvement and development.

At Peel CAS, our values drive our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We see Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Truth and Reconciliation as more than just policies and practices. They are an integral part of who we are as an organization, how we operate and how we see our future as we strive to provide strong outcomes for the children, youth, families and communities we serve.

We are committed to listening and learning so that we can do better and work toward a truly inclusive and respectful environment for everyone.

Sincerely,

Juliet Jackson
President, Board of Directors
