Stopping Traffic: Anti-Human Trafficking Call to Action

Jan 29, 2025, 16:30 PM

The average age of recruitment into sex trafficking in Canada is just 13 years old. Human trafficking is a heinous crime that targets the most vulnerable with devastating impacts on victims, survivors, and their families. Peel CAS is proud to be a part of the Peel Human Trafficking Service Providers Committee, where we work with our partners to prevent youth from being victimized, and empower and support victims and survivors.

On February 19, 2025, in recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Day (Feb 22), we will be hosting a cross-sector training event to raise awareness, discuss prevention strategies, and build partnerships. The event will feature an exclusive screening of Dark Highway, a documentary that exposes the lived experiences of survivors of sex trafficking, the gaps in awareness and support, as well as how the busiest highway in North America plays a significant part in the supply chain of exploitation.

A panel discussion will follow with special guests AJ Edmonds (filmmaker) and Kelly Tallon Franklin, the founder and Chief Executive Director of Courage for Freedom, along with service providers who work with survivors. After lunch, Courage for Freedom Inc. will lead a training session focused on improving outcomes through education, awareness and early intervention for young people at risk.

This event is exclusively for professionals working in the social services sector. Seating is limited, so purchase your tickets today: https://ow.ly/hTwQ50ULl5o
