National Indigenous History Month

Add to:

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

National Indigenous History Month invites all Canadians to reflect on the truths that are often overlooked or untold in mainstream narratives. From the legacy of residential schools to the effects of the Sixties Scoop, Indigenous peoples have endured generations of systemic oppression, cultural erasure, and intergenerational trauma. These are not just stories of the past—they are living histories that continue to shape the present.

Reflection also calls us to acknowledge the strength, resilience, and brilliance of Indigenous communities. Indigenous languages are being revitalized, traditional knowledge guides environmental stewardship, and Indigenous leaders, artists, and scholars are shaping a better future for all.
